SECONDHAND KNOWLEDGE is a research project conducted by Rósa Ómarsdóttir in collaboration with Ásrún Magnúsdóttir taking place as a series of workshops and interviews all over the world. The focus is directed to countries that are considered to be on the periphery in any way, be it in regards to the hegemony of the western dance scene, gepgraphically or culturally. On each location they organise a group of emerging contemporary dancers and choreographers active in the dance field of each there. Together they explore in what ways knowledge about dance and dance history travels to the periphery of Europe and back. They look at how knowledge gets translated and how it transforms on it's way. They explore encounters with known dance-works through re-enactments and reconstructions during the workshops by looking at dance from the eyes of the periphery.
From the interveiws they write the Automonous Autobiography of the Dance Scene in each place which is read in a performative event at the end of their visit.
This project has travelled to: Trondheim, Aarhus, Reykjavík, Riga, Zagreb, Nicosia, Syros, Tehran and Cairo.
